Teff is an annual, summer cereal and hay crop originally from Ethiopia. It has rapid seed germination, fast growth and is well adapted to dry climates. However, teff has virtually no tolerance for freezing temperatures. Thus it needs to be planted between mid-May and early August in this region.

Red Cedar Tree Control - Allan Vyhnalek Newscolumn Week of April 21, 2008
I’ve been able to travel to Crete, Fullerton and Greeley in the past two weeks. As I drive by pastures, it is obvious that we need to think about managing the Eastern Red Cedar Trees. The small farm that I own has a pasture, and I’ve been in the pasture controlling these trees for several hours the past couple of years. Be assured that this is hard work, but necessary for the long term productivity of the grasses.

Land Values and Rents Are Up - Again - Allan Vyhnalek Newscolumn for Week of March 24, 2008
As you know from comments I made from last week's column, it is no surprise that land rental rates and land values are significantly higher than a year ago. This is based on preliminary information from the UNL Ag Economics Department Annual Land Value Survey that was released last week. The survey represents the time from February 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008.
